To manage and maintain research activities and provide assistance with fund-raising and personnel in the laboratory of Professor Li-Huei Tsai, the director of PILM. The approximately forty-member lab conducts research investigating the molecular-, circuit-, and systems-level basis of neurological disorders that impact learning and memory. Model systems include transgenic mice, human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models, and human brain samples. Multidisciplinary approaches are employed, including in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology and neurocircuitry mapping, neurobehavioral testing, biochemistry and immunohistochemistry, large-scale imaging, epigenomic and transcriptomic approaches, and bioinformatics analysis of big data. Responsibilities include managing science projects in the lab; coordinating internal and external scientific collaborations; helping lead collaborations with groups within MIT (Department of Brain and Cognitive Science and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory) and beyond (Broad Institute and Neurodegeneration Consortium); collaborating with the principal investigator and other lab members on the design and execution of experiments; collaborating with grant administrator on development and production of grant applications; assisting with recruiting and evaluating research and technical support staff and overseeing general responsibilities of technical support staff; assisting with lab calendar, data storage and accessibility, and related projects; and possibly serving as co-investigator on grants.
To assist with research on the effects of neurodegeneration on cognitive function in various mouse models. Duties include conducting behavioral experiments to assess learning and memory in mouse models and analysis of highly-automated paradigms as well as those requiring human observation. These projects will include optogenetic, pharmacological, histology, biochemical, and imaging approaches. Will work closely with postdocs and graduate students.
To assist with clinical and translational research evaluating whether Gamma ENtrainment Using Sensory (GENUS) stimulation can be used to help patients with memory impairment or at risk of developing impairment. Through collaboration with MIT’s Clinical Research Center and faculty members across multiple disciplines at MIT, this team is working to bring GENUS to human subjects. Responsibilities will include working closely with fellow researchers and graduate students to accelerate the progress of their research goals; patient interactions, including following protocols and preparing for research visits; device preparation and maintenance which may involve packaging, shipping, and in-person delivery of the devices to subjects’ homes; running and assisting with EEG, MRI, and RNA sequencing protocols, including setup and data analysis; maintaining patient database, including organizing primary information into datasets, data entry, and data review for errors; statistical analysis of primary data; and participating in staff meetings and in the development/refinement of research protocols/procedures.
